Basketball Recap: Columbus East's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

It was a good run, but Columbus East unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 65-52 to the Shelbyville Golden Bears. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Olympians of the 59-53 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Several Olympians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Keaton Lawson, who went 8 of 13 en route to 19 points and three steals. Lawson has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Reeves, who posted 11 points.

Shelbyville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Reed led the charge by going 5 for 8 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. Those 15 points gave Reed a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Schene, who made all 5 shots he took for 11 points.

Columbus East's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Shelbyville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Columbus East didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-50 defeat against Bloomington South on the 17th. As for Shelbyville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 62-42 win against Pendleton Heights on the 18th.
