Recap: Burke County Bears vs. New Hampstead Phoenix
It was a good run, but the Burke County Bears unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a hard 81-66 fall against New Hampstead. Burke County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as New Hampstead apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Burke County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kelly Williams, who scored 14 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Wimberly, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Burke County's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-3. As for New Hampstead, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Burke County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Southeast Bulloch at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Southeast Bulloch is ranked 187th, while Burke County is ranked 173rd). As for New Hampstead, they will square off against Lakeside at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
