Basketball Recap: Southern Wayne Takes a Loss

Southern Wayne came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were outmatched by the Goldsboro Cougars and fell 64-16. The loss continues a trend for the Saints in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost five in a row.

Destiny Bullock was Southern Wayne's leading scorer, having posted five points. Kamani Brister held things down on the boards with three rebounds.

Imari Buckom was nothing short of spectacular for Goldsboro: she dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 steals. That's the most steals Buckom has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alissa Brown, who went 7-for-8 on her way to 15 points and four steals.

Southern Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Goldsboro, their win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Southern Wayne didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 44-29 loss against North Pitt on the 26th. As for Goldsboro, they have also already played their next matchup, a 62-46 defeat against Southeast Raleigh on the 28th.
