Baseball Recap: Liberty Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Liberty extended their winning streak to eight on Thursday, bumping them up to 12-4. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Pinnacle Pioneers 4-2. For the Lions, this counts as revenge for the 5-4 win the Pioneers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2025.

Abram Sherrin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Marley Chancey was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2025.

As for Pinnacle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-4 Sunnyslope (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 73.2% over those games).

On Pinnacle's side, Matt Smith was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, Smith didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2025.

On the hitting side, Pinnacle saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hawk Licari, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Liberty wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 9-7 victory against Sunnyslope on the 27th. Hopefully Pinnacle paid attention to the Lions' matchup: the next time they hit the field , they'll take on the Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
