Softball Recap: Whetstone Sets Scoring Season-High Against Northland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whetstone). They never let the Northland Vikings get on the board and left with a 20-0 win on Wednesday. Considering the Braves have won six matches by more than 11 runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jillian Nelson and Avery Bair made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Nelson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bair pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Nelson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Nelson scored three runs while going 2-for-2, while Bair scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Nelson a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Kira Young was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Lija Barzdukas was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Whetstone was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Whetstone now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Northland, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Whetstone will face off against Grandview Heights at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Beechcroft at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
