Basketball Recap: Sierra Vista's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

Sierra Vista entered their matchup against Desert Oasis on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Sierra Vista Mountain Lions received a blow as they fell 66-48 to the Desert Oasis Diamondbacks. The Mountain Lions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Diamondbacks from their previous meeting back in December of 2022.

When it comes to explaining why Sierra Vista lost, don't look at Donnayja Gibson. Despite the final result, she went 8 of 16 on her way to 23 points. Another player making a difference was Avery Silvas, who posted six points and seven boards.

Desert Oasis found their leader in sophomore Kayleigh Upham, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Upham has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Atkins-Dowd, who put up three points in addition to nine steals, eight assists, and five boards.

Sierra Vista's loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-8. As for Desert Oasis, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.

Sierra Vista will challenge Basic at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Sierra Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season. As for Desert Oasis, they will take on Democracy Prep Agassi Campus at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Democracy Prep Agassi Campus will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Desert Oasis surely won't give up without a fight.
