Walden Grove wins going away against Empire

Recap: Walden Grove Red Wolves vs. Empire Ravens

The Walden Grove Red Wolves won the last time they faced the Empire Ravens, and things went their way on Thursday too. Walden Grove was the clear victor by a 70-50 margin over Empire. The victory was all the more spectacular given Walden Grove's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while Empire is ranked 26th).

Ashton Romney continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 23 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Walden Grove's points. Davareo Hill was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.

When it comes to explaining why Empire lost, one person who can't be blamed is Donovan Davidson. Despite the final result, he scored 30 points along with 3 steals. Davidson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Khari Gurley, who scored 6 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 steals.

Walden Grove's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Empire, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-2.

Walden Grove is on the road again on Monday and play against Canyon del Oro at 7:00 p.m. on December 4th. Canyon del Oro will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Empire won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Tanque Verde at 7:00 p.m. on December 1st. Tanque Verde is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.6 points per game.
