Springfield will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Normal University, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Senators came out on top against the Pioneers by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Senators.

Mia Volpert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

Volpert wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Keilyn Howard, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another was Erin Stoops, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Calhoun waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Rockets 16-0. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by nine runs or more this season.

Like Springfield, Calhoun also got a great game from a two-way player: Audrey Gilman. Throwing, Gilman struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Anabel Eilerman pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Gilman got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Eilerman scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. That triple was Gilman's first of the season.

In other batting news, Lilly Pelletier and Layla Longnecker did most of the damage at the plate: Pelletier scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Longnecker scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Carly Pohlman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Springfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 14.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Calhoun struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Springfield couldn't quite finish off Calhoun when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Senators avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
