Softball Recap: Skyline Grizzlies vs. Shelley Russets

There's no place like home for Skyline, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Shelley Russets on Thursday and snuck past 15-14. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.

Maggie Young made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Young was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and a triple.

In other batting news, Addison Sanders was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ellie Whitworth, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.

Skyline's victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-4. As for Shelley, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Skyline will take on Blackfoot at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Skyline is facing Blackfoot at the right time seeing as Blackfoot is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Shelley, they will head out on the road to square off against Idaho Falls at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Shelley has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
