3A District 3 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Star-Spencer moved up to 110 from 139 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A District 3. The Bobcats climbed the ranks as a result of besting Bridge Creek 40-9.
Heritage Hall extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Oklahoma Centennial, 56-12. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Kingfisher's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Grant Newton threw for 74 and one touchdown and Grant Borelli had 28 yards receiving. On the ground Landon Nault chipped in 206 yards. Jake Blair helped Kingfisher's passing attack out by catching two balls for 19 yards.
Nick Smith made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Yellowjackets topped Bethel. The 5-foot-7 freshman grabbed one interception.
Heritage Hall's Conner McGinnis and Chedon Shockley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McGinnis has thrown for 927 yards this season, while Shockley, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 39 catches for 545 yards. Kingfisher's Nault leads the league in rushing yards with 1065.
A big matchup in 3A District 3 this week will be when Newcastle takes on Jeff Myers' team. The Racers are currently in fourth, while the Yellowjackets are in first.
Newcastle was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. William Bolles' team vanquished Marshall 56-7 earlier in the week.
