Softball Recap: Sumrall Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Purvis

Sumrall faced Purvis in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Sumrall took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Purvis. The Bobcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tornadoes earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Kara Applewhite made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Robertson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Sumrall's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-5. As for Purvis, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Sumrall Bobcats take on Columbia Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sumrall is facing Columbia at the right time seeing as Columbia is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Purvis, they will challenge Forrest County Agricultural at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Forrest County Agricultural has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.58 runs per game on average), something Purvis will no doubt try to take advantage of.
