Football Recap: West Grand Comes Up Short

West Grand and Mancos squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but West Grand had to settle for second. They were dealt a 56-26 defeat at the hands of the Bluejays. It was the first time this season that the Mustangs let down their fans at home.

When it comes to explaining why West Grand lost, don't look at Landon Lockhart. Despite the final result, he rushed for 122 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 91 yards and one TD on only eight passes. Lockhart's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 122 rushing yards.

Leading Mancos to victory were Jonah H Ritter and Michael Resner. H Ritter rushed for 232 yards and five scores while picking up 10.5 yards per carry, while Resner rushed for 164 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries. The Bluejays are undefeated when Resner posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise.

West Grand suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 8-2. As for Mancos, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.

West Grand does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mancos, they will take on Akron at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bluejays' defense better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 41.7 points per game this season.
