A day after showing up on campus in a helicopter, North Carolina State's Mark Gottfried got his man.

ESPN's Paul Biancardi reported Thursday that elite point guard prospect Dennis Smith Jr. of Trinity Christian (Fayetteville, N.C.) has committed to the Wolfpack.The 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior is regarded as the No. 5 overall prospect in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports and No. 2 point guard.

During the 2014-15 season, Smith averaged over 22 points per game at Trinity Christian en route to MaxPreps Junior All-American honors.

Smith suffered a torn ACL in early August and is expected to miss his senior season of high school basketball.



Though programs like Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina extended offers, North Carolina State was a runaway favorite to land Smith. The Wolfpack garnered 94 percent of the predictions in 247's Crystal Ball in the run-up to his decision.
