Softball Recap: Immaculate Heart Academy Makes It Nine in a Row at Home

Immaculate Heart Academy is still undefeated this season after their contest against Red Bank Catholic on Sunday, but Red Bank Catholic came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Blue Eagles came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Caseys. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Blue Eagles have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Gabi Dellavolpe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Immaculate Heart Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlyn Mikros, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Mikros also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Leah English was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Immaculate Heart Academy's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Red Bank Catholic, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, Immaculate Heart Academy will head out on the road to face off against Academy of the Holy A at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will give the Blue Eagles their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Red Bank Catholic, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 8-2 victory against Marlboro on the 8th.
