The O'Connor Eagles will challenge the Perry Pumas at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. O'Connor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
O'Connor is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Pinnacle just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 14-10 to the Pioneers.
Raegan Holtorf and Charleigh Schuettler stepped up to the plate in a big way. Holtorf fired off two home runs and one double while going 4-for-5, while Schuettler went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Holtorf has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Avery Gourlay was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Perry, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Hamilton 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pumas have posted against the Huskies since April 12, 2023.
Perry's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Julianna Nava, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI. That's the most RBI Nava has posted since back in March.
Perry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
O'Connor's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-6. As for Perry, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 9-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. O'Connor hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Perry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
