Baseball Recap: Cathedral Prep Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Cathedral Prep entered their tilt with Meadville on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Bulldogs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-3 two weeks ago.

JP Poranski looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since April 4th.

On the hitting side, Andrew Costello was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2024. Owen Fetzner also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Cathedral Prep pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Meadville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Cathedral Prep will head out to face off against Warren at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Ramblers are facing the Dragons at the right time seeing as the Dragons are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Meadville, they will face off against Slippery Rock at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rockets' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
