Softball Game Preview: Mendota Trojans vs. Princeton Tigers

The Mendota Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Princeton Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mendota has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 1st.

Mendota lost 11-4 to Newman Central Catholic on Monday.

Leah Henkel made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Princeton posted their closest win since March 27th on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Kewanee 4-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Reese Reviglio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ellie Harp was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Keely Lawson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Mendota's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Princeton, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Princeton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mendota has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Princeton, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Mendota's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.

Mendota might still be hurting after the 21-5 loss they got from Princeton when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
