Basketball Recap: Vela Now 10-1 over Last 11 Games

Vela had won three straight home games and Savanah Rivera did her part to make it four on Tuesday. The Vela Sabercats managed a 57-52 victory over the McAllen Memorial Mustangs thanks in part to Rivera, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 14 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Gg Betancourt, who posted 13 points along with six boards and three steals. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.

Vela is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for McAllen Memorial, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-8.

Vela will head out to challenge McAllen at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for McAllen Memorial, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at 12:00 p.m. McAllen Memorial is facing Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial at the right time seeing as Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
