Basketball Recap: Lexington Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with J.L. Mann

On Thursday, Lexington faced J.L. Mann in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Lexington Wildcats lost to the J.L. Mann Patriots on the road by a 62-46 margin. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Despite the loss, Lexington still got an impressive performance from Sydni Anderson, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Anderson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Izzy Saville, who posted 12 points.

Even though they lost, Lexington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.

It was another big night for Imari Richardson, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds for J.L. Mann. That's the most points Richardson has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Hailstock, who scored 17 points and five steals.

Lexington's defeat dropped their record down to 17-5. As for J.L. Mann, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

Lexington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for J.L. Mann, they will venture away from home to take on Dutch Fork at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Dutch Fork sitting on nine straight wins and J.L. Mann on ten.
