Basketball Recap: Shelby-Rising City Falls Despite Big Games from Leah Whitmore and Taya Pinneo

Shelby-Rising City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 40-28 to the Dorchester Longhorns. The Huskies were not able to make up for their defeat to the Longhorns from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Shelby-Rising City's loss came despite strong showings from Taya Pinneo and Leah Whitmore. Pinneo posted 12 points and three steals, while Whitmore put up five points and seven boards. That was a full 42.9% of Shelby-Rising City's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Nicole Martensen was another key player, putting up five points and seven rebounds.

Shelby-Rising City's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Dorchester, they pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Shelby-Rising City has already played their next contest, a 40-32 defeat against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley on the 25th. As for Dorchester, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 45-44 victory against Twin River on the 27th.
