Basketball Recap: Halifax Academy Comes Up Short

Halifax Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 72-41 loss at the hands of the Lawrence Academy Warriors. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 49-37.

When it comes to explaining why Halifax Academy lost, don't look at Landon Peoples. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Burr, who posted three points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Halifax Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Nike Wiggins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lawrence Academy, going 12 of 22 on his way to 28 points and six rebounds. Wiggins has been hot, having posted 20 or more points the last seven times he's played. Carter Hoggard was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 16 boards.

Halifax Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Lawrence Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season.

Halifax Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 86-42 loss against Fayetteville Academy on the 14th. Lawrence Academy has also already played their next match, a 68-61 defeat against Ridgecroft on the 14th.
