Baseball Game Preview: Peoria Christian Chargers vs. Farmington Farmers

Peoria Christian is a perfect 5-0 against Farmington since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. Peoria Christian will host Farmington at 10:00 a.m.

After dropping their season opener at home, Farmington is headed out to face a Chargers squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Peoria Christian fell just short of Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn by a score of 3-1 on Friday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Josiah Kniep was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Kniep was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Kniep wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Walder, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Farmington had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Red Storm as they made off with a 13-5 victory. With that win, the Farmers brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Ben Marvel and Jacob Evans did most of the damage at the plate: Marvel went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Evans scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Marvel has become a key player for Farmington: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Easley, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Peoria Christian beat Farmington 6-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Will Peoria Christian repeat their success, or does Farmington has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
