Baseball Game Preview: Guy-Perkins Thunderbirds vs. Atkins Red Devils

The Guy-Perkins Thunderbirds will venture away from home to face off against the Atkins Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Guy-Perkins is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

On Tuesday, Guy-Perkins didn't have quite enough to beat Nemo Vista and fell 8-7.

Urijah Fortner put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Fortner was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Guy-Perkins is 4-1 when Fortner posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Peyton Pierce was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Cardan Foster, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Atkins made easy work of Two Rivers on Tuesday and carried off a 16-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Guy-Perkins' defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Atkins, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Guy-Perkins has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Atkins struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Guy-Perkins might still be hurting after the 14-4 loss they got from Atkins in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
