Softball Game Preview: Cosby Titans vs. Deep Run Wildcats

The Cosby Titans will face off against the Deep Run Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cosby 2.1, Deep Run 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Cosby nor Powhatan made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Titans came out on top in a nail-biter against the Indians, sneaking past 4-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Titans, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Kammie Walter was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Deep Run's offense. They came up short against Godwin on Friday, falling 8-0. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Deep Run saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braelyn Baulsir, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Cosby pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Deep Run, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-4.

Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cosby hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Deep Run struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Cosby was able to grind out a solid win over Deep Run in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 14-10. Do the Titans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
