Basketball Recap: Frederick Falls Despite Big Games from Dante Lechuga and Olly Justice

Frederick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 70-64 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lutheran Lions. That's two games in a row now that the Golden Eagles have lost by exactly six points.

Despite the defeat, Frederick had strong showings from Olly Justice, who went 6 of 14 en route to 21 points along with five assists and five steals, and Dante Lechuga, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 19 points. Those five assists gave Justice a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Gebs, who posted six points.

Even though they lost, Frederick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lutheran only pulled down four offensive boards.

Lutheran was led to victory by Kade Speckman and Owen Oldenburg. Speckman dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards, while Oldenburg went 9 of 10 on his way to 23 points. The matchup was Speckman's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lalo Gonzalez, who had seven points and four steals.

Frederick's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Lutheran, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.

Frederick will take on Centaurus at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Centaurus has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Lutheran, they will face off against Ponderosa at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lutheran is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.6 points per game this season.
