Volleyball Recap: Lakeland Beats Yorktown for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Lakeland had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Yorktown Huskers. That's more bragging rights for the Hornets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Lakeland had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21.

Lakeland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kelly Mallon, who had 27 kills and 15 digs. Mallon is crushing it when it comes to kills: she's had at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Cruz, who had 23 kills and four digs.

Lakeland's record now sits at 10-1. As for Yorktown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3-2.

Lakeland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Pearl River on the 6th. Hopefully Yorktown paid attention to the Hornets' matchup: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
