Football Recap: Minersville Piles Up the Points Against Pine Grove

Minersville got themselves on the board against Pine Grove on Friday, but Pine Grove never followed suit. They breezed past the Cardinals to the tune of 43-0. The Battlin' Miners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 22 points or more this season.

Dante Carr was his usual excellent self, rushing for 66 yards and two TDs on only six carries, while also throwing for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. What's more, he racked up 140.6 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Paiten Lapoint was another key player, gaining 85 total yards and two touchdowns.

Minersville's run defense was locked in: Pine Grove could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. While three picked up at least nine total tackles, Derek Derenzo stood above the rest. He rushed for 50 yards and one score. Minersville didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.8.

Minersville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Anthony Bowers.

The victory made it two in a row for Minersville and bumps their season record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 points in those games. As for Pine Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Minersville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 34-0 victory against Nativity BVM on the 10th. As for Pine Grove, they have also already played their next matchup, a 72-0 defeat against Schuylkill Haven on the 10th.
