Basketball Recap: Fleming Island Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Fleming Island couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Leon Lions by a score of 50-47 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Golden Eagles have suffered since January 13, 2024.

Leon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaron Pensel, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Pensel also racked up six blocks, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alphonza Gammons, who posted 11 points along with five boards and four steals.

Fleming Island's loss dropped their record down to 23-6. As for Leon, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.

Fleming Island does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Leon, they will head out on the road to challenge Ponte Vedra at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ponte Vedra will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Leon surely won't give up without a fight.
