Basketball Recap: Nakayla Aguilar and Ashlyn Berg Secure Win for Crowley County

There's no place like home for Crowley County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 52-40 win over the Rye Thunderbolts on Tuesday. This was payback for the Chargers, who suffered a 69-24 loss the last time these two teams met.

Leading Crowley County to victory were Ashlyn Berg and Nakayla Aguilar. Berg posted 16 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Aguilar had 12 points in addition to six assists and six boards. Berg continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamil Lovato, who put up six points along with six rebounds and four steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Crowley County was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 8.2.

Despite the loss, Rye still got an impressive performance from Kelsy Stribling, who went 8-for-19 to rack up 19 points and five steals. That was a full 47.5% of Rye's points, marking the third time in a row Stribling has earned more than a third of the team's points. Shiloh Rutledge also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Crowley County's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points over those games. As for Rye, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Crowley County will face off against Walsenburg at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Rye does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
