Basketball Recap: East Carteret Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jayedon Watson and Lukas Styron

East Carteret easily dispatched Jones last Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The East Carteret Mariners fell just short of the Pamlico County Hurricanes by a score of 41-38 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mariners have suffered against the Hurricanes since February 4, 2022.

Lukas Styron and Jayedon Watson certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Styron went 5 for 12 on his way to 11 points, while Watson posted ten points.

With the defeat, East Carteret broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-7. As for Pamlico County, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-10 record.

East Carteret will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Northside - Pinetown at 7:30 p.m. on January 28th. One thing working in Northside - Pinetown's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups. Pamlico County has already played their next game, a 64-40 win against Jones on the 27th.
