Basketball Recap: Kaleah Alles' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Living Word Lutheran over Westfield Area

Living Word Lutheran and Westfield Area squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Living Word Lutheran had to settle for second. The match between the Living Word Lutheran Timberwolves and the Westfield Area Pioneers didn't end well, with the Living Word Lutheran Timberwolves falling 53-38. While losing is never fun, the Timberwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while the Pioneers are ranked 59th).

Several Timberwolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaleah Alles, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 47.4% of Living Word Lutheran's points, marking the fifth time in a row Alles has posted more than a third of the team's points. Delaney Winkelmann was another key player, putting up 11 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Living Word Lutheran was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. This was only their sixth loss (out of 23 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Living Word Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Westfield Area, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-3 record this season.

Living Word Lutheran does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Westfield Area, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 57-43 win against Poynette on the 1st.
