Maiden took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Lake Norman, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Blue Devils narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Wildcats 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Devils have posted since August 28, 2024.

Maiden wouldn't go down easily and took Lake Norman into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 21-25, 17-15.

Lake Norman's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordin Smith, who had 22 digs. Another player making a difference was Alayna Lefebvre, who had 17 digs.

The win got Maiden back to even at 1-1.

Coming up, Maiden will head out to square off against Bunker Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lake Norman, they will challenge Ardrey Kell at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
