South came into Thursday's matchup looking for another win against Mira Monte, but Nathan Gonzales wouldn't allow it. The Lions took down the Spartans 42-28 on Thursday with plenty of help from Gonzales, who rushed for 160 yards and three scores, and also threw for 160 yards and a pair of TDs on perfect 6-for-6 passing. His rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 17th straight game with at least 119 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, South still got an impressive performance from Beto De Haro, who rushed for 73 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 191 yards and two TDs. 80 of those passing yards were hauled in by Michael Wilson Jr, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

The win made it two in a row for Mira Monte and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.5 points over those games. As for South, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mira Monte will challenge Del Oro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South, they will square off against North at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th. The Spartans' defense better be ready for this one: the Stars have averaged an impressive 35.1 points per game this season.
