Football Recap: Island Coast Comes Up Short

Island Coast extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They were outmatched by the Mariner Tritons and fell 34-0. The Gators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tritons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Island Coast didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rex Elliott and Romie Gordon. Elliott also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. Another thorn in Mariner's side was Samuel Exama, who made ten total tackles (2.5 for loss).

As for Mariner, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their three-point performance the game before.

Mariner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaxton Moore led the charge by rushing for 100 yards and one TD on only 13 carries. Owen O'Leary was another key player, throwing for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Island Coast will take on Lemon Bay at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Gators will be up against the Manta Rays' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34.4 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mariner, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cape Coral at 7:30 p.m. on October 3.
