Baseball Game Preview: Quitman Bulldogs vs. Baptist Prep Eagles

For the first time this season, Quitman will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Friday. They will host the Baptist Prep Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Quitman barely beat Mt. Vernon-Enola the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Quitman's pitchers stepped up to hand Mt. Vernon-Enola a 12-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Warhawks: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Baptist Prep challenged McGehee on Thursday. Everything went Baptist Prep's way against McGehee as Baptist Prep made off with an 18-8 victory.

Baptist Prep got a great performance from Jon Ramirez as he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave Ramirez a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, Austin Herring was a standout: he scored five runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Preston Somers was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Baptist Prep's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Quitman, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
