Softball Game Preview: Cobleskill-Richmondville Bulldogs vs. Fort Plain Hilltoppers

The Cobleskill-Richmondville Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Fort Plain Hilltoppers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Cobleskill-Richmondville is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Three must be Cobleskill-Richmondville's lucky number: they beat Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Bulldogs didn't even let the Wolves on the board, marking the Bulldogs' second-straight 3-0 shutout.

Ryleigh Briggs and Danica Palmer did most of the damage at the plate: Briggs went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Palmer went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Palmer has hit this season.

Fort Plain came out on top against Johnstown on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Hilltoppers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Sir Bills. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hilltoppers.

Jordon Gomez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Gomez was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Daija Suits was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Lainie McDuffee was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.

Cobleskill-Richmondville's record is now 5-1. As for Fort Plain, their record now sits at 3-5.

Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cobleskill-Richmondville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .517. However, it's not like Fort Plain struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
