Softball Recap: Marshall Comes Up Short

Marshall extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They lost 21-0 to the Clinton Yellowjackets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bobcats of the 23-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2020.

As for Clinton, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2. Give their pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

For Clinton's part, Sarah Parish was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Parish has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Kaelyn Lasley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Aliviah Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Marshall will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Sloan-Hendrix at 4:00 p.m. on the 30th. The Greyhounds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.2 runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. Clinton also won't see the field for a while: their next game is against Atkins at 4:30 p.m. on the 30th. The last three games the Red Devils have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
