Basketball Recap: West Muskingum Comes Up Short

West Muskingum lost against Tri-Valley back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The West Muskingum Tornadoes fell just short of the Tri-Valley Scotties by a score of 59-56. While losing is never fun, the Tornadoes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 257th, while the Scotties are ranked 89th).

Despite the loss, West Muskingum saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Carter Smith went 6 for 7 on his way to 14 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Reid Lemity, who posted 11 points.

With the defeat, West Muskingum broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-7. As for Tri-Valley, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

West Muskingum will welcome Maysville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Maysville will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something West Muskingum surely won't give up without a fight. As for Tri-Valley, they will head out to take on Sheridan at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Tri-Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Sheridan likes a good challenge.
