Football Game Preview: Highland Park Scots vs. Midlothian Panthers

Highland Park is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Midlothian is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Scots will host the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

If Highland Park beats Midlothian with 56 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Scots beat Cleburne on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 56-14. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Scots' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 555th).

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Midlothian over Red Oak in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Panthers blew the Hawks out of the water with a 46-10 final score. With the Panthers ahead 32-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Beau Wendel and Billy Middleton. Wendel had a great game and rushed for 102 yards and two scores on only nine carries. Meanwhile, Middleton did his best for the losing side, rushing for 79 yards and one touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Midlothian's defense and their five sacks. Foster Mason was especially locked on to Red Oak's QB and sacked him twice.

Midlothian's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Highland Park, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Highland Park strolled past Midlothian when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a score of 38-21. Do the Scots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
