Baseball Game Preview: Marlington Dukes vs. United Golden Eagles

The Marlington Dukes will face off against the United Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Marlington's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so United's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Marlington and Carrollton, and Carrollton kept the tradition alive. The Dukes fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday.

Sam Yoder was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marlington saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Garett Dillon, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those runs were Dillon's first of the season.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, United made sure to put some runs up on the board against East Palestine on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles blew past the Bulldogs 10-3. The win continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

Cavan Jackson was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Nick Lutes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

United kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Palestine only managed two hits.

United's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Marlington, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
