Softball Game Preview: Shawnee Indians vs. Bryan Golden Bears

The Shawnee Indians will challenge the Bryan Golden Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Shawnee is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out St. Henry 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since April 20, 2024.

Riley Rhodes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lyla Rosas, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Taylor Lichty was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Bryan sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Ayersville on Thursday.

Shawnee might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Bryan in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can Shawnee avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
