Basketball Recap: Madison Marlins vs. Waltrip Rams
The Madison Marlins came tearing into Wednesday's match with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Waltrip 87-69. Given Madison's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Rams are ranked 906th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nicolas Golden went supernova for Madison, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Golden scored 15 or more points. Anthony Avalos was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Madison has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Waltrip, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.
Madison will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Northside knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully the Marlins like a good challenge. As for Waltrip, they will head out on the road to square off against the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sterling has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,587 points over their last 22 games.
