3A Conference 8 recap October 8, 2013
Weddington was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Charlotte Country Day. The Warriors came in at 17 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.
Piedmont extended the longest winning streak in 3A Conference 8 this week by beating West Stanly, 34-26. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Cuthbertson's Steven Fusco and Ryan Kendall led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Fusco has thrown for 670 yards this season, while Kendall has 30 catches for 378 yards. Albert Funderburk from Sun Valley leads the league in rushing with 1,156 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Anson takes on Weddington. The Bearcats are currently in fourth, while the Warriors are in first.
Weddington made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 732 from 1,241. The improvement was the result of a 28-3 victory over the Buccaneers last week.
