Softball Recap: Poly Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Poly won against King last Wednesday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. Poly sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Yucaipa Thunderbirds. The win was familiar territory for the Bears, who have now won three contests in a row.

Marley Audoma made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddy Waddell, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Cassandra Ayala, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Poly's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing seven strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.78 in the others. As for Yucaipa, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.

Poly has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against Beaumont on the 17th. As for Yucaipa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 5-2 loss against Liberty on the 20th.
