Basketball Recap: Julian Villagomez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Point Arena over Averroes

Point Arena saw some tournament action on Thursday. They fell 64-51 to the Averroes Falcon.

Point Arena's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julian Villagomez, who shot 40% from the field en route to 13 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Bernal, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

Averroes found their leader in sophomore Amin Khairzada, who went 7-for-12 on his way to 19 points. Thanks to that strong game, Khairzada now owns an excellent 47.1% field goal percentage. Naeem Rivers was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.

Point Arena's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Averroes, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Looking ahead, Point Arena won't have much time to rest: their next game is against South Fork at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Averroes, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against San Francisco Waldorf on Wednesday.
