Softball Game Preview: North Sanpete Hawks vs. Carbon Dinos

The North Sanpete Hawks will square off against the Carbon Dinos at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Sanpete will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times North Sanpete and Manti had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Hawks walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Templars last Friday. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly five runs.

Kaecee Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaylie Robinson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Mylee Cook was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Carbon fell victim to Juan Diego Catholic and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Soaring Eagle, falling 15-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Dinos' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

North Sanpete pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Carbon, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. North Sanpete hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Carbon struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

North Sanpete took their win against Carbon in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Dinos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
