Basketball Recap: Illiana Christian Takes a Loss

Illiana Christian was the 44-36 winner over Marquette Catholic when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Illiana Christian Vikings took a 56-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marquette Catholic Blazers on Tuesday.

When it comes to explaining why Illiana Christian lost, don't look at Noah Sons. Despite the final result, he en route to 14 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Sons is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Jake Scott, who posted 12 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Illiana Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Cole Dobre was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 14 points and ten boards for Marquette Catholic. What's more, Dobre posted four steals, the most he's had since back in November of 2023. JJ Welch was another key player, putting up nine points.

Illiana Christian's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Marquette Catholic, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-11.

Illiana Christian has already played their next game, an 80-57 win against Lake Station Edison on the 21st. As for Marquette Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-44 victory against Glenn on the 20th.
