Softball Recap: Alexander Sets Scoring Season-High Against Del Rio

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alexander). They were the clear victor by a 14-4 margin over the Del Rio Rams on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ellie Gonzalez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Alexander got a massive performance out of Mia Rubio, who scored four runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Rubio a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmine Rodriguez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI and one double.

Alexander kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.2.

Alexander's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11. As for Del Rio, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-13.

Coming up, Alexander will face off against Medina Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Medina Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Del Rio, they will take on United at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Del Rio has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
