Softball Preview: Haywood Tomcats vs. Lake County Falcons
The Haywood Tomcats will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against the Lake County Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Haywood will be strutting in after a win while Lake County will be coming in after a loss.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row dating back to last season, Haywood turned things around against Lakeland Preparatory on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 10-0 margin over the Lions. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tomcats considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Lillian Scott made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Scott was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Samiah Johnson was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Karly Young was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
Haywood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeland Preparatory only posted an OBP of .136.
Meanwhile, Lake County unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 8-4 to South Fulton on Tuesday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it ten in a row.
Lake County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlin Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
