Preview: Avon Old Farms Beavers vs. Cheshire Academy Cats
The Avon Old Farms Beavers will head out on the road to face off against the Cheshire Academy Cats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cheshire Academy took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Avon Old Farms, who comes in off a win.
Last Saturday, Avon Old Farms faced Salisbury School in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Avon Old Farms put the hurt on Salisbury School with a sharp 41-21 win. Avon Old Farms might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Meanwhile, Cheshire Academy came up short against Suffield Academy on Friday and fell 20-13. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Cheshire Academy came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Suffield Academy is ranked 32nd).
Despite their defeat, Cheshire Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Dante Reno, who rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown on only six carries, and also threw for 227 yards and a touchdown while completing 72% of his passes, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Luke Reynolds, who picked up 131 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Avon Old Farms has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 7-2 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.2 points per game. As for Cheshire Academy, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2.
Avon Old Farms took a serious blow against Cheshire Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2015, falling 42-14. Thankfully for Avon Old Farms, Craig(cj) Holmes (who rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and also picked up 43 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time.
